About the Party

Every other year Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council hold a ‘Party in the Park’ at Victory Field in Sunninghill, but this year we are delighted to be hosting an extra special party to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day to coincide with the celebrations taking place all over the country on Thursday 6 June.

Following the format of the very successful Platinum Party in the Park in June 2022, there will be live music, children’s rides,
Fish ‘n’ Chips and other fabulous food for all the family to enjoy!

The event will take place from 4pm until 10pm with music from various professional bands performing on the specially erected open-air stage, as part of the line up of entertainment, we are delighted to be welcoming back Groove Republic and Groove Company who have both been so popular with the audience when they performed at our previous Party in the Park events.

There will be food stalls, a beer and Pimm’s tent, ice cream stall, fairground rides and fun for all the family. Bring your own picnic, chairs and rugs and soak up the party atmosphere throughout the evening.

In celebration of the ‘Light of Peace’ that emerged out of the darkness of WW2, a beacon will be lit at Victory Field at 9.15pm.  This will coincide with the lighting of beacons all over the country that evening, whilst the International Tribute will be read out to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.  After the 1940s sing-a-long the beacon will be lit to bring the evening to a rousing finish!

You are welcome to bring your own seating and rug and as it will be getting dark towards to end of the evening, we also advise you to bring torches with you to aid the journey home.

More exciting details are being confirmed for the day all the time, so for updates keep checking the website and don’t forget to  follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

The event will feature some great bands performing live on stage throughout the evening.

We are pleased to be welcoming back to the D-Day 80 Party in the Park stage, Groove Republic who have previously delighted the Party in the Park audience many times with  their energetic funk and soul hits.  We will also be welcoming back Groove Company, who will be encouraging you all to dance the night away with hits from the 1940s to 2000s.

Just before the lighting of the Beacon at 9.15pm we will be inviting everyone to raise their voice in song and join us in a 1940s sing-a-long!.

Beacon lighting

1st Sunningdale Scouts and South Ascot Scouts have been preparing young people of ages 6 to 18 with skills for life and supporting the community in the area for well over 100 years.

The Scout Groups have previously built beacons for other celebrations in the community and are very honoured to be asked to do so again for the celebration of D-Day 80!

Our volunteer leaders, Scouts and Explorers will be building the beacon during the day and preparing it for lighting at 9:15pm along with other events across the country.

There will be a mouth-watering array of food available at the Day-Day 80 Party in the Park. As it is national Fish ‘n’ Chips day, why not go for battered Fish and chips with mushy peas!  Alternatively, we also have everything from Indian street food such as samosas, chats and naan wraps to  jacket potatoes, not forgetting the traditional burgers and hot dogs.  There will be veggie options available too.

For those of you with a sweet tooth we can tempt you with traditional fudge, candyfloss, homemade brownies, gourmet cookies, freshly made donuts and ice cream.

To wash down all that fabulous food don’t forget to visit the slush drinks stand, coffee cart, SAPC Beer tent and Quince Players Pimm’s Bar.

You are welcome to bring your own picnic as well.  Just choose your favourite spot under the trees, listen to the live music and soak up the great atmosphere.
