Background Information

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) produced the draft Ascot Placemaking Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) which was put out for consultation  to allow residents to have their say on the contents of this document by responding to the consultation by 19 January 2025.  This meeting was attended by over 300 residents as was an opportunity for them to influence what Ascot should be like in the future, for ourselves and generations to come.

Several years ago it was agreed that, in order to revitalise Ascot, changes would be made in the centre and these would be funded by housing development around the High Street.  These changes were outlined in the Princes Foundation Report, the Neighbourhood Plan and the Borough Local Plan and include a high-level vision to rejuvenate Ascot as a vibrant place for the community, with an improved High Street and high-quality new development that protects the green and leafy character of the area.

Now as we move closer to realising the vision, the draft SPD has been prepared by RBWM with the aim of providing detail to assist the implementation of the vision and policies, by providing a detailed framework to guide new development within the Ascot Centre in a structured manner.

Local stakeholders, including Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council, have many concerns about the details of the SPD that has been prepared and how this will shape the future of the area – it is likely that Ascot could have another 500 homes built on the four identified development sites within the village, excluding the homes now being built on the Heatherwood site.

Call to Action

A community meeting was held at Ascot Racecourse on Wednesday 8 January to inform residents of the contents of the draft SPD and to encourage then to get involved, sharing their views to help inform planning decisions for Ascot, and the vision to rejuvenate the village as a vibrant place for the community, improving the High Street & protecting our green spaces.

The deadline to send your views to RBWM is midnight was Sunday 19 January.  As well as completing the online consultation questionnaire residents could email RBWM planning policy directly with their views, including the following:

  • Ensure that you name and postcode are clearly visible on your email.
  • Copy in your Borough Councillors and MP (contact details below)
  • Use the headings from the questionnaire to frame your email and give your views. E.g.
