WESSEX ROUTE STAKEHOLDER UPDATE

Staines to Windsor & Eton Riverside: Line Closure, March 2021

Dear Stakeholder,

Between now and 2024 we’re upgrading the signalling equipment controlled by our Feltham Area Signalling Centre and Wokingham Signal Box to improve the reliability of over 80 miles of railway, mainly in South West and Greater London.

The signalling system in this area dates back to 1974 and requires regular maintenance that can only be completed when trains are not running. Our long-term ‘Feltham and Wokingham Resignalling Programme’ will renew this equipment with a modern, digital equivalent. All of this work will bring benefits to our passengers including increased capacity for services, fewer delays and enhanced safety.

This March, engineers will install new signalling equipment and carry out track and structural maintenance between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside.

In Datchet, Queens Road and High Street level crossings will be closed at certain times during this work – please read on for more information.

Line closure between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside
Saturday 6 – Friday 12 March

Buses will replace SWR services between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside throughout this closure and some train services will be altered.

  • London to Windsor services will divert after (or terminate at) Staines. Passengers for Wraysbury, Sunnymeads, Datchet and Windsor should change at Staines for a rail replacement bus service
  • Passengers should check before travelling at National Rail Enquiries or South Western Railway (SWR) as some services will be retimed
  • On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March, maintenance work will affect services between Virginia Water and Reading and on the Hounslow Loop.
  • On Sunday 7 March, London Paddington will be closed affecting Great Western Railway services to Windsor & Eton Central – more information is available here.

While the railway is closed and alongside our signalling and track work, we will clear litter at Wraysbury, Sunnymeads, Datchet and Windsor stations. This work will improve the passenger experience of using our stations and will be of benefit to local lineside neighbours.

Over the Easter period, there will be further line closures in the Twickenham area – more information is available here. Passengers should check before they travel.

Datchet Level Crossings

To complete our work in the Datchet area, the following level crossings will be closed to traffic on the dates below:

High Street (Datchet Level Crossing): 00:40 Saturday 6 March to 00:40 Monday 8
Queens Road (Mays Level Crossing): 00:40 Monday 8 March to 00:40 Wednesday 10

Crossing users should divert via local roads during these closures.

We appreciate the support of all our stakeholders and would be grateful if you could share this information with your constituents, members and residents.

Finally, if we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us directly.

Best regards,

Jonny
