Platinum Party in the Park on 2 June 2022

Victory Field Recreation Ground London Road, Sunninghill, SL5 7DG

About the Party

Every other year Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council hold a ‘Party in the Park’ at Victory Field in Sunninghill, but this year we are delighted to be hosting an extra special Platinum Party in the Park as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations taking place all over the country.

The event will begin at 4.30pm with live music from various professional bands performing on the specially erected open-air stage, as part of the line up of entertainment, we are delighted to be welcoming back Groove Republic, who have been so very popular with the audience when they performed at our previous Party in the Park events.

There will be food stalls, a beer and Pimm’s tent, ice cream stall, fairground rides and fun for all the family. Bring your own picnic, chairs and rugs and soak up the party atmosphere throughout the evening.

To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen reaching the unprecedented achievement of 70 years on the throne, at 9.45pm the main event will begin with the lighting of the official jubilee beacon, this will coincide with the lighting of beacons all over the country that evening. Once the beacon is lit, a specially formed community choir will lead the singing in a Proms style finale for a  rousing finish to the evening.

Free disabled parking will be available onsite.  A park and ride service is available from Ascot Racecourse’s Car Park 10, which will take you directly to Victory Field.  Other parking is also available at St Michael’s Church, Sunninghill.

You are welcome to bring your own seating and rug and as it will be getting dark towards to end of he evening, we also advise you to bring torches with you to aid the journey home.

More exciting details are confirming more details for the day all the time, so for updates keep checking the website and don’t forget to  follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter!

Jubilee Beacon

1st Sunningdale Scouts and South Ascot Scouts have been preparing young people of ages 6 to 18 with skills for life and supporting the community in the area for well over 100 years.

The Scout Groups have previously built beacons for other celebrations in the community and are very honoured to be asked to do so again for the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

Our volunteer leaders, Scouts and Explorers will be building the beacon during the day and preparing it for lighting at 9:45pm along with other events across the country.

The last beacon that the Scouts Groups build was done at Broomhall Recreation Ground in 2018 to commemorate the 100 anniversary of the end of WW1 and you can see a time-lapse of the build here.

Live Music

The event will feature a number of great bands performing live on stage throughout the evening.

We are pleased to be welcoming back to the Platinum Party in the Park stage, Groove Republic who have previously delighted the Party in the Park audience many times with  their energetic funk and soul hits.  This year we will also be welcoming for the first time Groove Company, who will be encouraging you all to dance the night away with hits from the 1940s to 2000s.  Opening the live music for us at 4.30pm will be an exciting new blues and rock band led by front man Evert Outen.  Do click on the links below to hear these wonderful bands in action.

After the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at 9.45pm we will be inviting everyone to raise their voice in song and join our community choir singing a Last Night of the Proms style finale.

This will be a great evening of celebration and music not to be missed!

Torch Bearers

There will be seven torch bearers representing the seven decades of Her Majesty’s reign, who will ceremonially light the Jubilee Beacon at 9.45pm.   These people have all been nominated by members of the public as someone who has put others before themselves or someone who has lead by example or triumphed through adversity.  They are the unsung heroes of our community and this honour has been given to them in recognition of all their hard work.

The seven Torch Bearers are:
Rob Abell, Annie Andrews, Hannah Brewer, Alan Everett, Elaine Finch, Nicola Hughes and Georgie Tindall

It is time to show how much we appreciated our unsung heroes, come along and give our very special Torch Bearers a cheer as the light the Jubilee Beacon!
