5079  GROUNDSMAN’S REPORT AND SITES UPDATE
The report was considered and the completion of the remedial works within the Parish play areas, necessitated by the annual RoSPA safety inspection, was noted.  Work on the extension of the wood chip path at Blythewood had started, the pitches had been prepared for the start of the season and the Parish Soccer Shield and Allotment Shield awarded. The Clerk informed the committee that one quote had been received for the next phase of tree removal at the cemetery.  The cost was considerably greater than anticipated due to the larger number of trees involved and their location.  The Clerk was asked to obtain a second quote.  Councillor Christine Lester raised a concern about the maintenance of the ‘closed’ section of the cemetery and suggested the establishment of a ‘Garden ofRemembrance’ for friends and families visiting the cemetery.  The Chairman proposed to hold the next Leisure Committee at the cemetery so that these matters could be considered on site.

5080  COMMUNITY CLEAN UPS
The Clerk informed the committee that the Borough and Police litter picks at South Ascot Recreation Ground, Victory Field and Blythewood Recreation Grounds had gone well, but suggested thatSouth Ascot be re-visited as litter was a significant, on going problem.

5081  THE SKATE AREA AT VICTORY FIELD
The committee visited the skate area at Victory Field with a view to considering its improvement.  Two local residents, Ben McCommick Copley and Sean McCarten, and skate park experts joined the meeting and provided useful information about the nature of skate parks, specialist suppliers and funding sources available.  It was agreed that the Leisure Committee recommend to full Council that the area be improved and that a user group be set up to oversee this.

5082  OTHER BUSINESS
Councillor Christine Lester read out a letter she had received from a local teenager regarding the role of the Parish Council in assisting with ensuring a sporting legacy following the Olympic Games.  The resident had suggested an increase in sport provision within the Parish, such as through the installation of a woodland trim trail.
Councillor Lester was asked to contact the resident and ask him to provide further information for consideration at the next Leisure Committee.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 8.00pm.
